Revel Digital Puts Android On Intel
October 1, 2014 by Dave Haynes
RevelDigital, a digital signage software firm based in Fargo, ND (yes, THAT Fargo) was one of the early copanies to get into the Android ARM race for players and platform. And now it is one of the first companies to jump on the opportunity to use an Intel chipset that will allow it to run and support multiple operating systems.
The new solution is based on the new Intel Reference Design for Digital Signage (EL10) and aimed at that entry-level projects.
Says a news release today:
The RevelDigital management platform for Android and MS Windows will be fully compatible with the entry-level Digital Signage media players based on the reference design from Intel.
The new Intel® reference design for digital signage (EL10) features the latest generation Intel® Atom processor E3815 which promises exceptional media performance, a fanless low-power design, and support for multiple operating systems including Android 4.4, Microsoft Windows, and Linux. Targeted towards the entry-level digital signage market, these new Intel solutions provide an affordable, turn-key option for consumers which are quick to setup and simple to manage.
As an early adopter of Android OS for digital signage, RevelDigital has been developing their software to take full advantage of Android on low power devices. This newest generation of Intel hardware will help strengthen the role of Android and Windows 8 in the digital signage marketplace by providing a common, low power, low cost, platform for both operating systems. RevelDigital will be a software provider for the new EL10 hardware and will be offering packaged solutions through ODMs such as Gigabyte, JWIPC, among others to be announced.
“We immediately saw the benefit of Android for digital signage and pushed our team to develop feature parity with our Windows software. Since then Android has taken the lead in our new deployments for its reliability and affordability,” says Mike Tinnes, CTO, RevelDigital.
“The Intel® Reference Design for Digital Signage (EL-10) coupled with RevelDigital’s cloud content management solution will enable digital signage providers to quickly innovate on Android and Windows for this important entry-level market,” notes Intel’s Jose Avalos, worldwide director visual retail and digital signage. “Enabling a rich digital signage ecosystem that can run best on Intel Architecture is critical for delivering easy to implement user experiences.”
The RevelDigital platform provides all the tools necessary to create and manage a large scale digital signage network while being completely web based and service oriented. By leveraging emerging technologies, RevelDigital is able to provide a complete suite of management tools traditionally only found on desktop software. This includes everything from monitoring player hardware to designing screen content to running proof of play reports. While focused on ease of use, the RevelDigital platform is also highly capable with support for interactivity, intelligent scheduling, audience metrics, remote triggering, display synchronization, beacons, developer
APIs, and other enterprise level features.
“We are fortunate to be a part of the Intel ecosystem and we look forward to providing the best digital signage offering possible on this new hardware,” says Ted Rosenbaum, CEO, RevelDigital.
Hardware manufacturer IAdea made a similar announcement about the Intel EL-10 last week.
