Project Profile: DSA Crown-winning BBVA Roll-out

November 12, 2012 by Dave Haynes

Here’s another look at the BBVA bank job in Spain that won the DSA Crown Award:

Category – Point of Wait ($10,000 or more)

Gold: BBVA Flagship, submitted by John Ryan

As I wrote earlier this year:

The Spanish bank BBVA went big on digital at its newly opened flagship branch in central Madrid.

The branch has a 63-foot LED ribbon facing the street, as well as video walls and some nicely designed and integrated self-service digital slabs in the customer areas.

The program was put together by John Ryan, which is based in Minneapolis but has an office in Madrid.

“Playing a mix of headline news, weather and bank promotions,” says a release, “the exterior LED display turns standard static signage into a dynamic brand asset. Content is updated daily and focuses on inviting passersby to enter the branch and sample its new features. These include a series of touchscreen kiosks and tablet devices, which are fully integrated with a sophisticated queue and appointment management system. As a result of this approach, customers are free to enjoy the branch’s amenities while they wait for service.”

Other innovative features of the Flagship location include advanced self-service devices (known as “Abil”) and collaborative client/employee stations.

The John Ryan digital signage platform was already in use in BBVA branches all over Spain and Portugal.

I’m not sure what running news headlines and weather achieves for BBVA (well actually I do: nothing), but I like the self-service Stonehenge thing and clean design.
