Wireless power closer to reality

James Bickers has a piece up on Digital Signage Today looking deeper into word from the propeller-heads at MIT that they have figured out a way to spark up a 60 watt lightbulb from 7 feet away — with no cord in between.
The concept is called WiTricity and involves sending power through the air like radio waves.
This stuff is so far over my head I need a telescope, but I was nonethless asked by James to suggest what it might mean for our weird little world if it really worked, did not cost as much as aircraft carriers, and was somewhat safer than a Tesla coil.
